C. Gordon Wolfley, 91, Oconto Falls, formerly Rockford, IL; died Thursday morning October 9, 2008 at the home of his daughter Annie and son-in-law Dave. He was born October 2, 1917 to Chester and Lois (Carlson) Wolfley in Evanston, IL but resided most of his life in Rockford. Following graduation from high school he attended Northwestern University where he lettered three years on the varsity golf team, serving as varsity captain his senior year. Following his graduation from Northwestern, he entered the US Navy where he served in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. On May 2, 1942 he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Margaret Mulnix in Washington D.C. while in the Navy. After his honorable discharge from the service, he moved back to Rockford and was employed by the Smith Oil Co. in the personnel department. In 1963, he went to work in the human resources department of the Rockford Register Star & Republic for 19 years, retiring in 1982. While living in Rockford, Gordon was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church for 31 years. He was a lifetime member of the "N" Men´s Club at Northwestern University and belonged to the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Gordon and his wife moved to Oconto Falls in 2000 where they became members of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Friends of the Arts. Survivors are his five children, Joan Napolilli, Montrose, CO; John (Renee) Wolfley, Ottumuwa, IA; Robert (Beth) Wolfley, Shorewood; Anne (Dave) Funderburg and Clare (Dave) Bergstrom all of Oconto Falls; 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; one brother, Allan (Jo) Wolfley, New Canaan, CT. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Marg on March 13, 2005, one brother Richard (Jo Ann) Wolfley and son-in-law John Napolilli. Visitation with the urn present will start after 9:00 am Thursday, October 30, 2008 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am Thursday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Patrick Beno officiating. Burial of the urn will follow in the church cemetery.
