Clifford R. Anderson, 87, Oconto Falls, died Saturday afternoon September 27, 2008 at home. He was born June 23, 1921 to Anton and Astrid (Nelson) Anderson where he grew up on the family homestead in the rural area north-west of Oconto Falls once known as "Swedetown". Following the bombing at Pearl Harbor, Clifford and his brother Arnie and sister Alyce, moved to San Diego, CA to work for Consolidated Aircraft Corps where they built B-24 bombers. Not long afterward Clifford was drafted into the US Army where he served in the North-Africa and Italy campaigns during WW-II. Following his honorable discharge from the service he moved back to the area and worked in the family lumber business which at the time had grown to become the largest lumber company in Northeastern Wisconsin. It was also during this time of his life when Clifford owned his own airplane and enjoyed flying. On September 12, 1953 he married Elaine McNutt in Menominee, MI. The couple made their home in the Oconto Falls area all of their married lives. In the mid 1960´s, Clifford worked alongside his brother Arnie building many homes in the area. Clifford and Elaine owned and operated Anderson Lanes in Oconto Falls from 1975 through 1984. Following his retirement Clifford continued to stay active in the building and sawmill businesses and enjoyed maintaining the woods that he owned. Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Elaine Anderson, Oconto Falls; their two children, Clifford G. (Alison French) Anderson, San Jose, CA; Debra (Barry McDonald) Anderson, Corbin, KY; three grandchildren, Jessica (Lonnie) Whitehouse, Oconto Falls; Nikki and Anton Anderson, both of San Jose, CA; three great grandchildren, Bailey, Theresa and Naomi Whitehouse; two brothers, Arnold (Viola) Anderson, Merlin (Faye) Anderson all of Oconto Falls; one sister, Alyce Ankerson, Gillett; three sisters-in-law, "Babe" Anderson, Gillett; Helen Anderson, Kelly Lake; Meta Anderson, Oconto Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Robert "Emerald", Anton "Tony" and Clarence Anderson. Friends may call at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls (920-848-2222 or visit: from 4:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Visitation will continue at the funeral home after 9:00 am Thursday, October 2, 2008 until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bill Kamke officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
