Melvin "Jack" Coopman, 64, Oconto Falls, died Tuesday evening at home, September 23, 2008 with his family by his side. He was born March 27, 1944 in Sturgeon Bay to Melvin and Velour (Schaal) Coopman. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Oconto Falls where he attended St. Anthony Catholic Grade School, later graduating from Oconto Falls High School with the class of 1962. Following graduation from high school he enlisted in the Army National Guard and served in the reserves until 1971. Jack also attended NWTI and earned a degree as a machinist. On May 11, 1968 he married Claudia Lemirande at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls. Following their marriage the couple lived in Green Bay before moving back to Oconto Falls where Jack was employed as a machinist at Magna Graphics until his retirement. Jack also owned and operated Happy Jack´s Bar on the west side of Oconto Falls for five years. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls. Jack will be remembered for being a life long Los Angeles Dodgers and Rams fan, even though he grew up in Packer country. Over the years, he also enjoyed bowling, playing pool, hunting and fishing. Survivors are his wife of 41 years, Claudia Coopman, Oconto Falls; their three daughters, Deanna (Bob) Kruschke, Gillett; Amy Jo (Brad Gagnon) Coopman, Oconto Falls; Stacie Garbrecht, Oconto Falls; eight grandchildren: Tori, Shawna and Jeffery; Justin, Mariah and Megan; Andrew and Regina; one great granddaughter, Hannah Marie; one brother, Jim (Betty) Coopman, Green Bay; one sister, Pat Coopman, Green Bay; his "Favorite Mother-in-law", Loretta Lemirande, Oconto Falls; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barb (Max) Boerschinger; Beverly (James) Fleischman; Marilyn Johnson; Dick (Devra) Lemirande; Rodger (Debbie) Lemirande; Laurie (Steve) Fischer; Sandy (Bob) Gareis; Gerry (Jackie) Lemirande; Tim (Lynne) Lemirande; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and fishing buddy, Carl Lemirande and brother-in-law, Tom Johnson. Friends may call at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls (920-848-2222 or visit: www.jonesfuneral.com) from 4:00 until 8:00 pm Friday, September 26, 2008. Visitation will continue at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls after 1:00 pm Saturday, September 27, 2008 until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 pm Saturday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Patrick Beno officiating. Happy Jack will be greatly missed by his family members & friends!
