Ralph "Jack" VandenBush

Ralph “Jack” VandenBush, 90, Oconto Falls, died early Thursday morning, April 26, 2018 at Atrium Post Acute Care.  He was born December 17, 1927 in the Town of Morgan to William and Rose (Wood) VandenBush.  Jack grew up in the Oconto Falls area where he graduated high school with the class of 1946.  As a young man he entered the US Navy and was a member of Admiral Byrd’s expedition to the Antarctic Circle in 1947.  Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he returned home to Oconto Falls.

On June 26, 1954 he married Margaret LeComte and the couple had six children together.  Jack was employed by the Scott Paper Co. in Oconto Falls for almost 40 years, retiring in 1990.  He was a longtime and active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls where he served as trustee and usher, sang in the Folk Choir and volunteered his time and talents in numerous parish activities including president of the Holy Name Society.  As a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, Jack was elected and served as a Lector and active with fund raisers.  His hobbies included woodworking, golf, gardening, fishing and in his younger years, softball and bowling.

Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Margaret VandenBush, Oconto Falls; their six children, Cindy (Lincoln) Petersen, Tampa, FL; Rick (Patty) VandenBush, Oconto Falls; Dan (Karen) VandenBush, Luxemburg; Lisa (Ed) Christensen, Oconto Falls; Paula (Gary) Hansen, Green Bay; Diane (Don) Schmidt, Coleman; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; one sister, Viola “Ollie” (Arnie) Anderson, Oconto Falls; one sister-in-law, Sally VandenBush, St. Germaine; one brother-in-law, Dr. Dean Magnin, Marinette; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, Milton, Eben, Lloyd, Cletus “Pete”, Gordon “John”, Reuben, Bill and Joe VandenBush, four sisters, Edna Krueger, Gladys “Tiny” VanHaren, Doris Depner and Genevieve Burk, one grandson Brett VandenBush,

Visitation will be held 4-8pm Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls, 7pm KC prayer service.  Visitation will continue after 9:00am Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Joel Sember officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic School Foundation.

 

Visitation: Tuesday May 1, 2018, 4-8pm Teusday at Jones Funeral Service

Funeral Mass: Wednesday May 2, 2018, 11am Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church

Visitation: Wednesday May 2, 2018, after 9am Wednesday until the time of service at St. Anthony Catholic Church
