Norman Damp, 78, Oconto Falls, died peacefully Friday morning, April 7, 2017 surrounded by his family, after a two week stay at Atrium Post Acute Care of Oconto Falls.  The oldest of four children was born July 14, 1938 in Neenah to James and Lorraine (Kitzman) Damp.  As an infant, Norm moved with his parents to Oconto Falls which would become his lifelong home where he took an interest in hunting, fishing and trapping at an early age, attended public school and graduated from high school with the class of 1957.  While in high school, he excelled in track and competed at the state level.  Following graduation, he enlisted into the 5th Marine Corps and served his country from 1957-1959.  After his honorable discharge from the military, he attended a dance at Spruce where he would meet his future wife.

On August 19, 1961 he married Regina Mihalski at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Krakow.  The couple lived in Oconto Falls all their married lives where they raised three children, hunted and fished together, and taught generations how to be successful at it.  Norm was employed at Scott Paper Co. for many years until retiring as a team leader in the instrumentation department in 1993.  Taxidermy, which started out as a hobby, soon became his fulltime job after he retired and did good work with all shapes and sizes of animals, but specialized in white tail deer.  In 1983, the couple purchased a cottage on Butternut Lake in Forest County which they and their entire family have enjoyed while making many fond memories.  Norm was a charter member of the Oconto River Bowman which has grown for his family into five generations of membership and both he and Regina have been honored with lifetime memberships.  He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic parish in Oconto Falls.

Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Regina Damp, Oconto Falls; their three children, Darwin (Annette) Damp, Susie Damp and Lynette (Brad) Magnin, all of Oconto Falls; four grandchildren, Mitchell (Samantha) and Matthew Damp, Nathan and Anna Magnin; one great grandson, Mason Damp; two brothers, Wayne Damp and James Jr. (Virgie) Damp, all of Oconto Falls; one sister, Faye (Wade) Tress, Coleman; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Mary Ann and one sister-in-law, Yvonne Damp.

Visitation with the urn present will take place after 9am Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service.  Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11am Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Joel Sember officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
